We carried out experiments on what happens when you put sand, pebbles, clay and water in a bottle and shake it up. We predicted many different outcomes including “it will stack up straight”, “the dirt will soak up all the water”, “the water would turn a rainbow colour”, “the water would turn green”.    When we shook the bottles the water turned brown and muddy. We left the bottles overnight to see how the contents would settle.  When we came in to school the next morning we found that the dirt had settled in layers at the bottom and the water was clear above this.
