Fáilte go Scoil Naomh Fiach!

As Principal of St. Fiach’s N.S., I am thrilled to welcome you to our vibrant and close-knit school community. Nestled in Ballinacree, our school is a place where children flourish academically, socially, and spiritually. At St. Fiach’s, we celebrate the individuality of each student, helping them develop into confident and compassionate individuals, fully aware of their unique talents and role in the world.

We are especially proud of our rich tradition of academic excellence, participation in sports and the arts, and our commitment to environmental sustainability through initiatives like the Green Flag program. Our dedicated staff fosters a spirit of curiosity and creativity, guiding students through a range of enriching activities, from Seachtain na Gaeilge Week to Active Week celebrations, where fun and learning go hand in hand.

Our Catholic ethos inspires us to create a nurturing environment where children can deepen their faith, develop lasting friendships, and cultivate a positive attitude towards life. Tá sé mar aidhm againn cabhrú le gach páiste a bheith sásta agus muiníneach, agus muid ag forbairt ár gcreideamh mar phobal láidir agus tacúil.

Go raibh míle maith agat as do spéis, agus tá súil againn go mbainfidh tú taitneamh as d’eolas a fháil faoi Scoil Naomh Fiach.

Cumann na mBunscol 2022

We had a fantastic few weeks competing in the 2022 boys and girls football competitions. Well done to everyone who represented St. Fiach’s brilliantly. Our boys competed well against Moylagh, Kilskyre and Drumbaragh. Our girls played Moylagh, Drumbaragh, Cortown and Rathmore. We qualified for the 1/4 final where we were no match for a fantastic Castletown team.

Well done everyone for a great effort.

Biodiversity Week – Buzzing for Art

With it being Biodiversity Week, we created some honey bee art. The pupils looked at the form of the insect- head, thorax, abdomen, antennae, wings and legs. The children were all given the same instructions but were allowed to make their art their own. They look fantastic.

Biodiversity Week – Trees

Today all the children of St. Fiach’s N.S. took part in a Tree and Biodiversity webinar held by Green-Schools Bio-Week. We looked at the different native Irish trees and some of the biodiversity around them. After our webinar we all went outside, divided into groups and used an ID chart to name the trees around our school. We found hawthorn, field maple, red maple, rowan, sycamore to name a few. Well done to the 5th and 6th class leaders who kept their groups together and engaged.

First Holy Communion 2022

Congratulations to the students in 2nd class who received the sacrament of First Holy Communion on Saturday. They carried out their tasks excellently. Thanks to Fr. O’Connor for a lovely ceremony and to Ms. Traynor for her beautiful singing. Thanks to all the parents for providing refreshments in the Community Hall.

Exploring Insects through the Senses

5th and 6th Class have begun a programme called Exploring Insects through the Senses. This week we focused on sight. The children created a 50cm square and placed it outside in an area of flowers. They watched and waited for 10minutes to see what insects landed in their 50cm area. The children identified the different insects using what we had learned in the classroom and then they recorded their observations.
