We had another very enjoyable Science Week at St. Fiach’s. Our students were busy investigating, experimenting and analysing through lots of interesting activities.
Thanks to Meath Library Service for organising online workshops and webinars.
Infants: Mrs. Glynn’s infants were busy making smoothies! They also investigated what materials are attracted to magnets.
1st and 2nd Class: We tried some blindfolded fruit tasting. We experienced plenty of different tastes on our taste buds! We also investigated how human and animal teeth work. We also watched a biodiversity workshop video.
3rd and 4th Class: We did the ‘Dancing raisins’ experiment which shows how Co2 bubbles raise the raisins. We also investigated gravity as a force.
5th and 6th Class: Science Week in 5th and 6th class was based on our brains, memory and light. We spoke about short term and long term memory, the persistence of vision and the sensory after effect. We looked at skills to help us develop our memory. We had great fun making thaumatropes (a toy that works on the persistence of vision) and flip books. This then led on to learning about light refraction and the colours of white light. The children really enjoyed creating their Newton’s Disc and they were fascinated with the results.
