We had a very special day on the 18th June to celebrate our achievements for the academic year 2014/2015. It was wonderful to share our achievements with parents, grandparents and the wider community of Ballinacree. As well as achieving our 2nd Green Flag this year, we also received our Junior Entrepreneur and Health Promoting Flags. Special thanks to Fr. Congratulations to the students from 6th class who celebrated their graduation last week. The children shared stories from their time at St. Fiach’s. As usual the parents provided tea and refreshments for the wonderful evening. We would like to wish Killian, Rory, Cormac, Emma, Chelsea, Maksim, Liam, Gary and Elizabeth all the best as they go on to the next chapter of their lives. Go n-éirí an t-ádh libh!
We celebrated a wonderful mass with Fr. Daniel on our last day of school. Our departing 6th class students read beautifully. Some of our students also received their Pioneer pins. Mary Heery Flood, Mary McCabe and Fr. Daniel presented the children with their pins. Well done all!
Our annual St. Fiach’s Cup reached its climax on our sports day recently. All students from 3rd to 6th class took part in the competition over the last couple of weeks. A keenly contested final saw Emma’s team narrowly defeat Killian’s team. Well done to all participants!

25/06/15: We are delighted to announce that we have just received notice that we have achieved the Yellow Flag. Many thanks to everybody once again for their continued support.
Yellow Flag Programme Assessment – Friday 19th June was the day of our Yellow Flag Programme. We had a visit from members of Yellow Flag team, Sara, Joan and Pat, to assess the hard work that we did during the year to complete the programme. Great credit has to go to all the students, teachers and YF committee for their effort, especially Ms. Glynn, who organised all the events and activities for a very busy and time consuming schedule.
Well done Anthony for achieving 1st place in the Diversity Art CompetitionOur Yellow Flag committee
Global Diversity Presentation Day – Students from each class gave a presentation on their chosen country and religion. Our students did wonderful research on their chosen countries and religions and really embraced the core values of diversity. Well done! To broaden the experience, we had traditional foods from the chosen countries which encouraged the children to explore the culinary cultures. Special thanks to all the parents who contributed to this event.
Diversity Week – We recently held our Diversity Week at St. Fiach’s as part of our Yellow Flag Programme. It was a busy week, with many visitors representing a host of different cultures:
Traveller Living History Programme – we had a visit from members of the Meath Traveller workshop. One of the last living tinsmiths, Tom, demonstrated how to make items out of tin and displayed some of his wares. The children also got a view of an old Traveller wagon where Nell explained to them what life was like for Travellers many years ago. It was a wonderful experience for our students and we would like to thank Meath Traveller Workshop for their visit.
African and South American drumming workshop – There was plenty of noise at our drumming workshop! A big thanks to Neil for demonstrating how to make music on many different kinds of drums from various countries. Boom boom boom!
Students from St. Oliver Post Primary School – Our children had a chance to absorb some Lithuanian and Polish culture during the visit from 2 students from St Oliver PPS. The similarities and differences between their cultures and that of an Irish person were excellently explained. Thank you Gwaid and Wida for your time.
Fr. Alo – Presentation on his time in China To finish off a wonderful week, we had the pleasure of a visit from Fr. Alo to educate us all about, the most populous country in the world, China. Fr. Alo gave a fantastic presentation about Chinese culture and talked about some of his experiences while working in Beijing. Thank you so much Fr. Alo for giving up your time to come and see us. Also a huge thanks to Dr. Bennett for cooking us Chinese food to celebrate the occasion!
October 2014 – We have recently launched our Yellow Flag Programme – Promoting Inclusion and Celebrating Diversity. At St. Fiach’s NS we feel that it is important to embrace, appreciate and celebrate different cultures. With Ms. Glynn as our co-ordinator and the ever present support from parents, we hope that this programme will be a huge success.
We had our sports day on Tuesday 23rd June. For the 3rd year in a row we were blessed with beautiful weather. Everyone participated in class races and as usual the competition was fierce! Stations were then set up including sack races, balloon races, spud and spoon races and the infamous wheel barrow races. It was a an action packed day of activities and great fun was had. Well done to everyone for participating!
